About the position

The Oracle DBA position in Houston, TX, is a senior developer role focused on the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of IT applications utilizing Oracle PL/SQL. The successful candidate will interface with clients at all organizational levels, translating business requirements into technical solutions that yield productive products for end users. This role requires a deep understanding of Oracle databases, particularly versions 11g and 12c, and the ability to work with various tools such as TOAD and SQL Developer. In this position, the DBA will be responsible for planning, designing, developing, testing, migrating applications to production, and maintaining these applications using Oracle and third-party tools. The role involves writing complex queries, utilizing advanced PL/SQL concepts, and performance tuning. The DBA will also analyze and convert business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring that the solutions are effectively designed and implemented. The candidate will leverage Oracle 12C features on large-scale multi-terabyte systems and assist the Decision Support team, including DBAs and database developers, in understanding data and meeting user requirements. Participation in project work groups with Subject Matter Experts and stakeholders is essential to understand data-specific needs. The DBA will also engage in performance tuning activities and provide production deployment and support as needed. This role is integral to all aspects of the software development life cycle, requiring the ability to learn both business processes and new technologies quickly. The DBA will work within an agile, rapid development, and deployment environment, emphasizing strong communication skills and the ability to conduct research into software-related issues.

Responsibilities

• Perform planning, design, development, testing, migration to production, and maintenance of applications using Oracle and third-party tools.
• Write complex queries using advanced PL/SQL concepts and performance tuning.
• Assist in defect triage, impact analysis, resolution planning, and implementation.
• Analyze and convert business requirements to technical requirements, followed by designing and implementing the solutions.
• Review Oracle ADDM and AWR reports and recommend query optimization based on the analysis.
• Leverage Oracle 12C features on a large-scale multi-terabyte system.
• Assist Decision Support team members in understanding data and meeting user requirements.
• Participate in project work groups with Subject Matter Experts and stakeholders to understand data-specific needs.
• Participate in performance tuning activities.
• Provide production deployment and production support as needed.
• Involved in all aspects of the software development life cycle.
• Work on a sprint team in an agile, rapid development and deployment environment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on Oracle Database experience.
• Experience with Oracle versions 11g and 12c.
• Proficiency in TOAD/SQL Developer for database access.
• Experience with Java and advanced PL/SQL development.
• Familiarity with operating systems such as Linux, Unix, and Windows.
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across various teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Oracle Fusion is a huge plus.
• Knowledge or experience in the utilities industry.
