About the position

The Major Healthcare Services client is seeking a lead Performance Oracle DBA to join their team in a senior capacity. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, build, upgrade, modify, and operationally administer both new and existing Oracle databases that support critical enterprise applications. The successful candidate will be engaged in a large-scale, multi-year project aimed at migrating from a legacy system to a state-of-the-art healthcare administration system. This position can be based in either the El Dorado Hills office or the headquarters in San Francisco and is initially offered as a 6-month contract. Candidates must be eligible to work on a W2 basis without sponsorship. In this role, the DBA will act as a subject matter expert in Oracle database performance, working closely with various teams to build scalable enterprise solutions. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining performance baselines, troubleshooting performance issues, and providing recommendations and fixes for identified problems. The DBA will also provide architectural guidelines for building and maintaining scalable multi-terabyte database environments, develop and distribute performance metric reports and dashboards, and oversee the administration of databases and related tools in large OLTP and batch environments. Additionally, the DBA will recommend solutions that define the physical structure and functional capabilities of databases, ensuring proper design, implementation, performance, availability, security, auditing, and capacity management of related database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a Oracle database performance subject matter expert, working with cross-functional teams in building scalable enterprise solutions.
  • Establish and maintain performance baselines, troubleshoot performance issues and provide recommendations/fixes for identified issues.
  • Provides architectural guidelines to build and maintain scalable multi-terabyte database environments.
  • Develops and distributes performance metric reports and dashboards highlighting the health of the database environments.
  • Creates, supports and administers relational databases.
  • Oversees administration and performs hands-on administration of databases, related tools, processes and operations in large OLTP and batch environments.
  • Recommends solutions that require definition of the physical structure and functional capabilities of databases and required data security and data backup/recovery specifications.
  • Ensures proper design, implementation, performance, availability, security, auditing and capacity management of related database systems.

Requirements

  • Practical experience in pro-active and reactive database performance tuning.
  • Database capacity forecasting.
  • Administering large hybrid environments with OLTP and Batch processing loads.
  • Oracle Database Architecture knowledge.
  • Performance tuning best practices expertise.
  • Supporting multi-terabyte Oracle databases on Unix-based systems, preferably AIX and Solaris.
  • Experience with databases hosted on virtualized platforms (AIX LPARs, VMware).
  • Excellent understanding and practical experience with Oracle performance views, OEM, ASM, backup and recovery concepts (RMAN) and operating system concepts.
  • Well versed in reviewing AWR, ASH reports and 10046, 10053 trace files to identify potential performance problems.
  • SQL statement tuning skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with databases supporting three-tier SOA/Web Services-based applications.
  • Replication technologies including Oracle Logical and Physical Data Guard, Goldengate, Oracle Streams.
  • Experience building and managing highly available Database environments using Oracle RAC or Symantec VCS.
  • Recent experience installing, configuring and managing Oracle 11g and 12c environments.
  • Ability to read and understand PL/SQL code and provide recommendations to developers.
  • Good understanding of Database Design and Data Modeling concepts.
  • Good understanding and practical experience troubleshooting Oracle SQLNet connectivity and performance issues.
  • Experience working with storage administrators in setting up storage subsystems for optimal database performance.
  • Unix shell scripting, Perl scripting skills.
  • Experience supporting system migration from legacy systems.
