About the position

The Database Administrator position at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is focused on supporting the TIERS project, particularly in the context of cloud migration efforts. The role involves maintaining Oracle databases, improving disaster recovery processes, and providing support for MSSQL Server Enterprise. The position requires on-call availability and weekend support during releases and maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain grid and database software, performance tuning, ASM/storage management, and administrating user/db security.
  • Support Oracle database on Oracle Exadata systems.
  • Provide additional support for MSSQL Server Enterprise for critical applications in TIERS.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and execute data corrections on production databases.
  • Improve the disaster recovery process to reduce workload.
  • Provide on-call support and 24x7 coverage for production development database systems.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle internal views, shell SQL, and PL/SQL scripting.
  • Experience managing Oracle databases versions on Linux systems including shell scripting and tuning.
  • Solid experience in managing Oracle version 19 databases, Real Application Clusters (RAC), and Active Data Guard.
  • Experience developing tools to administer large numbers of test development database environments.
  • Experience designing, installing, and maintaining large size databases.
  • Thorough knowledge and working experience in setting up infrastructure for databases in datacenters at multiple sites including cloud infrastructure.
  • Working experience in moving live production, development, and testing databases and applications hosted in different physical sites.
  • Experience with administration of Oracle database on Oracle Exadata database machine including configuration and patching.
  • Experience with administration of MSSQL Server, EDB PostgreSQL Enterprise databases.
  • Experience with migration, configuration, and support of Oracle databases on AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience performing database refreshes/clones and providing support for building development and testing databases.
  • Experience troubleshooting the database software and its infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Remedy, ITSM, PPM, and ServiceNow.
