About the position

The Oracle PL/SQL Developer position in Houston, TX, is a senior-level role focused on the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of IT applications utilizing Oracle PL/SQL. The developer will work closely with clients at all organizational levels, translating business requirements into technical solutions that yield productive products for end users. This role requires a strong understanding of Oracle Database, specifically versions 11g and 12c, and proficiency in advanced PL/SQL development. The developer will also be responsible for planning, designing, testing, and migrating applications to production, ensuring that all aspects of the software development life cycle are covered. In addition to technical skills, the position demands excellent communication abilities, as the developer will need to collaborate with various teams, including DBAs, database developers, and requirements analysts. The role involves participating in multiple projects simultaneously, requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. The developer will also engage in performance tuning activities and provide production support as needed, ensuring that applications run efficiently and meet user requirements. The ideal candidate will have a background in the utilities industry and experience with Oracle Fusion, although these are considered nice-to-have skills. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is preferred, along with training or certification in Java application servers, cloud solutions, and Oracle PL/SQL language. This position is a contract role, with a hybrid work model of three days onsite and two days remote, and is open to candidates who may need to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Perform planning, design, development, testing, migration to production, and maintenance of applications using Oracle and third-party tools.
• Write complex queries using advanced PL/SQL concepts and performance tuning.
• Assist in defect triage, impact analysis, resolution planning, and implementation.
• Analyze and convert business requirements to technical requirements, followed by designing and implementing the solutions.
• Review Oracle ADDM and AWR reports and recommend query optimization based on the analysis.
• Leverage Oracle 12C features on a large-scale multi-terabyte system.
• Assist Decision Support team members in understanding data and meeting user requirements.
• Participate in project work groups with Subject Matter Experts and stakeholders to understand data-specific needs.
• Participate in performance tuning activities.
• Provide production deployment and production support as needed.
• Involved in all aspects of the software development life cycle; demonstrate abilities to learn both the business processes and new technologies.
• Work on a sprint team in an agile, rapid development and deployment environment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on Oracle Database experience.
• Experience with Oracle Database versions 11g and 12c.
• Proficiency in TOAD/SQL Developer for database access.
• Experience with Java and advanced PL/SQL development.
• Familiarity with operating systems such as Linux, Unix, and Windows.
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.
• Ability to participate in multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
