About the position

SimVentions is seeking an experienced Oracle Database Developer to join our seasoned DBA team in a hybrid work environment. This role is critical in facilitating data loads and movement, maintaining data integrity, and supporting tool development from development to production. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of Oracle and SQL, and must reside within commuting distance to Dahlgren, Virginia, as on-base presence is required 2-3 days a week. The successful candidate will work closely with government customers, establishing, monitoring, and troubleshooting inbound and outbound interfaces to the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) from multiple Navy and Department of Defense (DOD) systems. This position involves direct interaction with customers to create and refine requirements, as well as writing technical documentation related to processing incoming files and producing outgoing file extracts. In addition, the Oracle Database Developer will design and build underlying database objects to meet customer requirements based on functional specifications provided. This may include creating database triggers, functions, procedures, and packages. Safeguarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and working in a secure environment is paramount. The role also requires rapid troubleshooting and addressing issues with incoming data or problems that occur within the load process, ensuring that data integrity is maintained throughout the operations.

Responsibilities

• Establish, monitor, and troubleshoot inbound/outbound interfaces to EDW from multiple Navy and DOD systems.
• Interface directly with government customers daily.
• Work with customers on creating and refining requirements.
• Write technical documentation related to processing incoming files and producing outgoing file extracts.
• Design and build underlying database objects to meet customer requirements based on functional specifications provided.
• Safeguard PII and work in a secure environment.
• Rapidly troubleshoot and address issues with incoming data or problems that occur within the load process.

Requirements

• Active Oracle Certification
• Minimum 5 years of experience with Oracle scripting, data management, and application development
• Experience managing DOD/US Navy databases
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience refining requirements
• Performance Tuning
• Proficiency with SQL & PL/SQL
• Proficiency with Unix or Linux Shell Scripting

Nice-to-haves

• Writing Oracle load scripting using SQL, PL/SQL, and SQL*Loader
• Monitoring scheduled jobs and reading Oracle logs
• Scheduling jobs for execution and monitoring them for successful completion
• Writing scripts to manipulate incoming files and prep them for loading
