About the position

The Organ Recovery Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the organ and tissue donation process, providing critical care assessments, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies. This role requires effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to manage high-stress situations while working independently and collaboratively with healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

• Provides on-call coverage for organ and tissue donation.
• Assesses organ and tissue donors and develops comprehensive care plans under guidance.
• Facilitates the referral/donor process and organ recovery using critical care principles.
• Completes required donor documentation in a timely manner under guidance.
• Obtains authorization and medical social history screening of donors as needed.
• Applies age-specific patient management for various organ donors under guidance.
• Allocates organs in compliance with STA and OPTN policy under guidance.
• Assists Surgical Services Coordinators in the operating room with organ preservation and labeling.
• Communicates with hospital services for effective donor follow-up under guidance.
• Attends Designated Requestor training annually.

Requirements

• Associates degree in Nursing or biological science or related experience required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of one year of critical care experience required.
• Must obtain and maintain ACLS and PALS certification within one year of employment.
• Excellent communication skills required to interact with all levels of personnel.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
• Ability to cope with high levels of stress and manage a heavy workload.
• Valid driver's license required for travel in light and commercial aircraft or personal auto.
