About the position

The Organ Recovery Coordinator at Southwest Transplant Alliance is responsible for overseeing the organ and tissue donation process, providing critical care assessments, and ensuring compliance with donation policies. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with hospital services and involves on-call coverage for organ donation activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides on-call coverage for organ and tissue donation
  • Assesses organ and tissue donors and develops care plans
  • Facilitates the referral/donor process and organ recovery using critical care principles
  • Completes required donor documentation in a timely manner
  • Obtains authorization and medical social history screening of donors
  • Applies age-specific patient management for various organ donors
  • Allocates organs in compliance with STA and OPTN policy
  • Assists in the operating room with organ preservation and labeling
  • Communicates with hospital services for effective donor follow-up
  • Attends Designated Requestor training annually
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Nursing or biological science or related experience required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Licensed as a registered nurse, respiratory therapist, paramedic, or applicable experience
  • Minimum of one year of critical care experience
  • Must obtain and maintain ACLS and PALS certification within one year of employment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to cope with high levels of stress and handle a heavy workload
  • Valid driver's license for travel in light and commercial aircraft or personal auto
