About the position

The Orientation and Mobility Specialist will work with school-age children with visual impairments to help them achieve maximum independence through safe and efficient travel instruction. This full-time position involves teaching compensatory skills, conducting evaluations, and participating in the referral and assessment process for visually impaired students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with visual impairments in achieving maximum independence through travel instruction.
  • Provide instruction in compensatory skills including daily living skills, self-advocacy, and recreation or leisure skills.
  • Conduct evaluations of the orientation and mobility needs of visually impaired students.
  • Participate in the referral and assessment process for visually impaired students.
  • Engage in community-based instruction as a critical component of the orientation and mobility program.

Requirements

  • Ohio Department of Education Teacher's Certification/Licensure in COMS.
  • Training and experience in teaching students with multiple impairments.
  • Ability to work effectively with educators and families.
  • Meet legal requirements relative to a criminal background check.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record and punctuality.
