About the position

At LanguageLine Solutions, we are dedicated to breaking down language and cultural barriers to improve the lives of limited-English speakers, as well as the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. As a remote Oromo-English Phone Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating communication across various industries, including healthcare, government, education, and more. This position allows you to work from the comfort of your own home while making a significant impact on the lives of individuals who rely on your language skills. In this role, you will receive industry-leading training to enhance your interpreting skills and ensure you are well-prepared to handle a wide range of interpreting sessions. You will be supported by a Senior Language Specialist and have access to our Interpreter and Technology Help Desks, ensuring you have the resources you need to succeed. The position requires you to respond promptly to interpreting sessions, maintain professionalism, and adhere to established interpretation protocols. You will be expected to convey accurate meanings and concepts while being sensitive to cultural differences. This is a remote position, and it is essential to maintain a quiet and secure environment to conduct your interpreting sessions effectively. You will be compensated at a rate of $0.70 - $0.85 per minute, depending on the time of day and the complexity of the interpretation. Responsibilities

  • Handle calls on demand and interpret conversations between Oromo and English speakers.
  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocols, avoiding omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout interpreting sessions.
  • Remain calm during interpreting sessions, especially in emergency situations such as 911 calls.
  • Follow client instructions to ensure expectations are met with the Limited English-speaking Person (LEP).
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.

Requirements

  • Fluency in Oromo and English with an understanding of associated cultural dynamics.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills to maintain accuracy during interpretation.
  • Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to technology enhancements that improve service delivery.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to read and write in the requested languages is highly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in interpreting for various industries including Medical, Insurance, Finance, and Law.
  • Familiarity with LLS technology and software used for interpretation.
