About the position

The Ortho Sterilization Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the dental practice by ensuring that all instruments are properly sterilized and that the clinical environment is maintained to high standards. This position acts as a liaison between the front office and the clinical team, facilitating smooth operations and enhancing patient experiences. The technician is responsible for sterilizing instruments, maintaining infection control protocols, and assisting the orthodontist as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Disinfect and sterilize instruments throughout the workday to create better workflow.
  • Conduct and mail spore testing for each autoclave and maintain the spore testing binder.
  • Keep assigned sterile laboratories and plaster laboratories clean, organized, and stocked at all times.
  • Distribute all sterilized instruments to their assigned places throughout the workday.
  • Maintain the dental office infection control plan to meet OSHA, CDC, and standards.
  • Prepare patients, sterilize or disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, and prepare materials for dental procedures.
  • Assist the dentist during dental procedures as needed.
  • Work positively with the team to provide an excellent experience for patients.
  • Assist with room turnover between patients.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and take immediate action to meet their needs.
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge in specialized areas, staying up-to-date on current trends and best practices.
  • Comply with Dental Depot policies and procedures, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Complete other administrative and maintenance tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile processing, instrument management, and OR logistics and scheduling.
  • Efficiently operates assigned computer software and other equipment, including Eaglesoft and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of valid vehicle insurance required.
  • Understanding of HIPAA to ensure patient privacy.
  • Clear understanding of sterilization systems and infection control protocols.
  • Knowledge of CDT codes and passing the Dental Depot CDT test within 20 days of employment.
  • Working knowledge of various dental procedures including fillings, extractions, and crown preparations.
