About the position

The Orthodontic Assistant at Vanguard Orthodontics plays a crucial role in supporting the Orthodontist by providing patient care and chairside assistance. This position is focused on executing treatment plans for patients with various forms of teeth misalignment, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable service experience for every patient. The Orthodontic Assistant is integral to the patient care team, responsible for maintaining a safe and clean working environment while adhering to all relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment area for patient by following procedures and protocols.
  • Prepare patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, and seating patients.
  • Assist the doctor in bonding, banding, and debonding of patients.
  • Assist the doctor in placing and removing orthodontic appliances.
  • Perform a variety of orthodontic adjustments.
  • Perform and store orthodontic records in consideration with company policy.
  • Perform dental infection control procedures.
  • Take X-rays, iTero scans, and quality photos.
  • Perform all lab-related procedures.
  • Complete all care calls.
  • Assist in managing and controlling supply inventory.
  • Document dental care services by charting in patient records.
  • Maintain strict compliance with all pertinent laws and regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, ADA, Dental Board, etc.).
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Get along well with others and have a supportive, team-player attitude.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail and desire to get things done quickly.
  • Adapt well to a fast-paced environment where changes occur frequently.
  • CPR and/or BLS certification.
  • Experience with X-rays and photos.
  • Experience with 3D Scanning (iTero).
  • Familiarity with Dental Technology.
  • Ability to provide Oral Hygiene Instructions.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control procedures.
  • Strong Patient Services skills.
  • Ability to create a Safe, Effective Environment.
  • Good Listening skills.
  • Teamwork and Chairside Manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified as an Orthodontic Assistant by the Dental Assisting National Body (DANB) preferred.
  • 1 year of Dental or Orthodontic Assistant experience preferred.
