About the position

The Staff Research Associate (SRA) will work within the School of Dentistry, focusing on cartilage and bone remodeling, regeneration, and degeneration in health and disease. The role involves managing projects related to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and periodontal mechanobiology, utilizing both in vivo and in vitro studies. The SRA will conduct precise assays, bioinformatic analyses, and ensure the operational efficiency of the laboratory, including managing supplies and coordinating student schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects related to osteochondral and sensory-sympathetic cross-talk in TMJ disease using mouse models and human studies.
  • Perform precise assays and bioinformatic analyses.
  • Ensure progress of clinical studies and assays on human samples.
  • Manage procurement and usage of laboratory supplies.
  • Oversee and coordinate student schedules.
  • Maintain and submit updates for animal care protocols.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD or DDS or MD degree or equivalent in biological sciences.
  • At least 2 years of experience performing basic biological experiments in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience working with small animals such as mice and rats.
  • Experience in cell and molecular biology techniques, including PCR, DNA, RNA, and protein work.
  • Ability to design and execute lab experiments.
  • Skill in recognizing problems and taking appropriate action.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Skill in writing scientific reports and manuscripts.
  • Ability to train lab staff and students.
  • Ability to learn imaging software programs and bioinformatic software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge in skeletal biology.
  • Experience in histology, microscopy, and image processing.
  • Ability to learn imaging software programs such as Imaris and R.
