About the position

As a General Merchandising Clerk at Jewel Osco, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service and maintaining the overall appearance of the store. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that customers feel valued and cared for during their shopping experience. This includes promptly answering calls, assisting customers with their inquiries, and ensuring that merchandise is returned to its proper location to maintain a neat and organized sales floor. You will be expected to follow all local, state, and company policies regarding the sale of tobacco and liquor, as well as compliance with guidelines related to WIC and EBT (Link). In addition to customer service, you will be responsible for various tasks that contribute to the store's operations. This includes processing incoming product deliveries, verifying received products, and ensuring they are stored according to established standards. You will also assist in setting up promotional displays, managing inventory through proper stocking and rotation, and maintaining cleanliness in various areas of the store, including the sales floor, backroom, and restrooms. Your role will require you to adhere to safety and sanitation regulations, ensuring a safe shopping environment for both customers and associates. The position requires a commitment to punctuality and reliability, as you will be expected to report to work on time and follow your scheduled shifts. You will also be responsible for removing potential hazards from the sales floor to protect both customers and fellow associates. Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service.
  • Answer calls promptly and provide helpful service to customers.
  • Return discarded merchandise to its proper location.
  • Place merchandise in bags or carts in an organized fashion.
  • Understand and follow local, state, and company policies on sales of tobacco and liquor.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and EBT.
  • Know value, look-up numbers, and features of items for which money is received.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures regarding photo processing.
  • Respond to price checks and other service calls.
  • Complete product relocations and resets, including assembly and dismantling of shelving units.
  • Assist in setting/pulling a sale ad by locating products and attaching/removing appropriate signage.
  • Disassemble and flatten packing boxes and load them into the baler.
  • Prepare cardboard in the baler for removal and move bales to the loading dock area.
  • Notify management of overs/shorts/damages.
  • Maintain proper inventory control through stocking and rotating merchandise.
  • Process incoming product deliveries by verifying and unloading products.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the check-stand area, sales floor, backroom, break room, and restrooms.
  • Consolidate products and organize storage areas according to '5S' standards.
  • Use SPA gun to maintain accurate inventory count in EOE system.
  • Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Report to work when scheduled and on time.
  • Remove potential hazards from the sales floor.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License (preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Experience in customer service
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends as needed

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in retail or merchandising
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems
