About the position

The OSP QC Engineer at MasTec Communications Group is responsible for ensuring the quality of all Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering Design projects. This role involves reviewing engineering design packages, verifying compliance with customer specifications, and identifying cost-effective solutions for cable placements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in quality control metrics and OSP design, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality review on all OSP Engineering Design packages.
  • Ensure that all aerial, underground, and buried cable designs are reviewed for cost-effective solutions.
  • Verify adherence to customer scope of work and plans.
  • Confirm accurate location of existing underground and aerial facilities.
  • Depict new construction route opportunities and solve cable path issues.
  • Identify missing or incorrect design information.
  • Communicate quality issues with engineers and managers for resolution.
  • Approve designs before submission to customers.
  • Ensure designs are effective and efficient according to specifications.
  • Manage engineering quality and compliance with design specifications.
  • Own the quality control process to produce value-engineered designs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3+ years of OSP Design engineering experience.
  • 1+ years of experience performing QC review on OSP Design packages.
  • Working knowledge of client software systems and builds.
  • Experience with fiber technologies such as Overbuild/LightGig/FTTH/Hexatronic is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of design and construction of Outside Plant Copper and Fiber Optic Cable.
  • Knowledge of Fiber backbone (F1) and distribution networks (F2).
  • Knowledge of Corning Flexnap cable design and terminal placement.
  • Knowledge of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.).
  • Ability to upload/download and edit documents in Project Management software.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Working knowledge of Google Earth/Maps.
  • Highly organized, self-starter, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Critical thinking skills to assess and provide solutions.
