About the position

The Oregon State Police in Salem, Oregon is hiring for multiple full-time, OSP Telecommunicator 2 positions, at the Northern Command Center. This position will receive a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) increase of 6.55% effective January 1, 2025. The role involves communication coordination between field officers, local and county law enforcement and emergency services, state agencies, and the public within a large geographic area. Daily duties include answering multiple phone lines and monitoring and responding to multiple radio channels simultaneously. The Command Center operates on a 24/7 schedule with varying shifts, and attendance may be required without prior notice.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communication between field officers, local and county law enforcement, emergency services, state agencies, and the public.
  • Answer multiple phone lines and monitor multiple radio channels simultaneously.
  • Support the State Police teletype network and computer-aided dispatch.
  • Maintain communication within a large geographic area encompassing multiple counties, cities, and towns.

Requirements

  • Three years of public contact experience involving gathering, relaying, and providing information.
  • Keyboard (typing) speed of at least 35 words per minute.
  • High school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Certified Emergency Communications Course may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Ability to read and write at the 12th grade level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience receiving, disseminating, and dispatching emergency or non-emergency requests.
  • Experience with answering multi-line phones or working in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Previous shift work experience.
  • Experience requiring a high degree of accuracy, memory recall, and attention to detail.
