About the position

The Occupational Therapist (OT) at TIRR Inpatient within the Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for assessing patients and developing individualized treatment plans to enhance their independence in occupational performance. This role involves providing direct patient care, documenting progress, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. The OT also plays a key role in mentoring students and staff, contributing to program development, and ensuring high-quality care in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and develop treatment plans based on evaluations.
  • Provide direct patient care and document findings and progress.
  • Assist Level III occupational therapists with program development.
  • Serve as a resource to staff occupational therapists.
  • Provide training and guidance to students and interns.
  • Supervise patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in departmental committees and taskforces.
  • Present educational sessions and relevant topics to colleagues and the community.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards in patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current Texas Occupational Therapy License.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience in occupational therapy with a focus on patient evaluation and treatment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to lift up to 75-100 pounds and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Prolonged standing, frequent walking, and fine hand dexterity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with specific treatment techniques or patient populations.
  • Previous mentoring or teaching experience in a clinical setting.
