About the position

The Outfitting Engineering Leader will oversee a small team responsible for planning the design and routing of equipment or systems prior to fabrication or installation. This role involves creating and revising technical drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing quality checks on team outputs. The leader will also engage with various departments to ensure project feasibility and customer satisfaction while maintaining safety and efficiency in operations.

Responsibilities

  • Organize design data, perform calculations, and conceive practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Create and revise 2D drawings and schematics, along with supporting documents such as bills of material or change notices.
  • Review design interfaces with ship structures and other systems using CAD models to eliminate interferences and verify functionality.
  • Perform quality checks and provide approvals for drawings or documents created by team members.
  • Evaluate performance, address complaints, resolve issues, and provide training to team members.
  • Verify installation or fabrication through physical confirmation via shop or ship checks.
  • Develop written technical information including procedures, tests, purchase specifications, and reports in collaboration with design originators.
  • Assist in estimating efforts through takeoffs or preliminary calculations.
  • Comply with customer requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations.
  • Organize, track, and prepare submittal information for equipment and materials.
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility and customer demand.
  • Assist other departments with procurement, installation, commissioning, and turnover of systems and equipment.
  • Analyze the effects of changes on product or system details and communicate results to relevant parties.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and new techniques, practices, and applicable processes.
  • Encourage safe work habits and participate in improving efficiency procedures.
  • Advise superiors on developments affecting profit, schedule, costs, and customer relations.
  • Interact with customers and vendors to communicate interface requirements and project status.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of Insulation Systems, Joiner Bulkhead Systems, Sheathing, Ceiling Systems, Deck Covering Systems, Doors, Furniture, Galley Equipment, Gratings, and Battens.
  • Ability to apply safety standards and adhere to industry regulations, including various MIL-STD's and SOLAS.
  • Extensive knowledge in the designated engineering field.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related area of specialization preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience required.
