About the position

The Outpatient Business Coordinator at Plains Regional Medical Center's Cancer Center is responsible for managing all activities related to patient admissions, coding, and financial counseling to ensure maximum reimbursement for patients. This full-time role involves coordinating the admission process, verifying insurance coverage, maintaining financial records, and supporting administrative tasks to facilitate efficient operations within the healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the admission process for patients including registration, insurance verification, and financial arrangements.
  • Collects patient financial obligations and advises patients regarding insurance coverage and benefits.
  • Ensures the registration/admitting process is complete and accurate for every patient registration.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and follows up with the central billing office for any needed changes or corrections.
  • Maintains up-to-date financial records for recurring patients and coordinates with medical staff on account changes.
  • Reviews patient accounts daily to ensure authorizations are current for treatment.
  • Posts payments to patient accounts and reconciles daily collections with totals posted.
  • Reviews incomplete medical record reports to ensure compliance with guidelines.
  • Keeps current on reimbursement billing procedures of third-party and private insurance payers.
  • Reconciles Medipac reports to billed charges report.
  • Initiates and receives calls pertaining to patient accounts and keys payment information to accounts.
  • Researches FDA approval of drugs and treatments for proper reimbursement and obtains authorizations for experimental treatments.
  • Accepts responsibility for continuing education to improve work efficiency.
  • Reviews and initiates actions pertaining to correspondence and assembles relevant information for processing.
  • Coordinates facility requests for maintenance issues and maintains accurate inventory of office supplies.
  • Coordinates projects as they arise and manages the collection and distribution of mail and memos.
  • Creates and maintains Access database and Excel reports for documentation and scheduling.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Specialized, short-term training in computers is necessary.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a medical office setting or 1-2 years of experience with admitting, coding, registration, or patient billing.
