About the position
The Outpatient Coder position at UMC Southern Nevada involves researching codes and abstracting medical information to ensure accurate and billable coding for outpatient and physician clinical services. Responsibilities
- Research and abstract medical information to determine accurate coding for outpatient services.
- Identify and report coding opportunities and recommendations for improvement.
- Monitor and report trends in coding and escalate discrepancies to management.
Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of outpatient coding experience.
- Formal education in a related field may substitute for experience on a year-to-year basis.
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or similar.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) practices.
- Knowledge of Medicare hospital and physician outpatient coding regulations.
