About The Position

The Outpatient Reservation Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient patient registration, pre-certification, and insurance verification processes. This position is integral to the ambulatory service team, focusing on maximizing billing accuracy and providing essential administrative support to patients. The specialist is expected to adhere to established policies and procedures while delivering care tailored to the diverse needs of the patient population.

Requirements

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
• 1-3 years prior experience in a medical office.
• Bachelor's degree may be substituted for some of the required experience.
• Proficient PC skills.

Responsibilities

• Implement the Medical Center's pre-registration, pre-certification, referral procurement, and insurance verification policies and procedures for the assigned ambulatory point of service.
• Capture and enter appropriate documentation of patient registration and demographic information in the patient accounting system to maximize billing accuracy.
• Comply with the department's patient financial responsibility collection policies.
• Provide patients with appropriate administrative information.
• Participate in audits of registrar accuracy and efficiency as it relates to accurate collection of insurance information and reimbursement.
• Participate in coding, scheduling, or related activities as required.
• Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.).
• Communicate with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
• Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
