About the position

The Outpatient Social Worker at Gillette Children's Hospital plays a crucial role in assisting patients and families in navigating the challenges associated with illness and disability. This part-time position focuses on promoting health and wellness through psychosocial support, counseling, and advocacy, ensuring that patients achieve the maximum benefit from available resources. The social worker will engage in various modalities to provide comprehensive care, including psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, and patient education.

Responsibilities

  • Identify presenting problems and family concerns related to emotional, social, and health-related issues.
  • Integrate background information and assessments using DSM-V multi-axis diagnoses to inform interventions.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and analysis of complex psychosocial information.
  • Communicate assessment outcomes with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Clarify patient and family strengths, needs, and goals to develop objectives for enhanced functioning.
  • Design and implement therapeutic interventions appropriate to clinical problems.
  • Modify therapeutic modalities in consultation with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Interact with patients and families in a developmentally appropriate manner, respecting cultural diversity.
  • Research, mobilize, and coordinate resources to help patients and families achieve their goals.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary meetings and collaborate with other staff and community resources.

Requirements

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) by the MN Board of Social Work.
  • Current CPR certification (optional).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong interviewing and counseling skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in hospital or health care social work is strongly preferred.
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the MN Board of Social Work.
