About the position

The Outreach and Camp Coordinator at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science plays a vital role in the educational program team, focusing on developing and teaching STEM-based curriculum for preK-12 students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This position involves logistical support for outreach programs and seasonal Discovery Camps, ensuring that educational offerings are engaging and aligned with the museum's mission to inspire minds through nature and science.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach STEM-based curriculum for preK-12 grade students.
  • Provide logistical and program support to the Outreach Programs Manager during the academic year.
  • Support the seasonal Discovery Camps and the Discovery Camp Manager during school breaks.
  • Communicate information regarding Outreach programming to other departments and community contacts.
  • Coordinate weekly assignments of Outreach Educators.
  • Assess supply inventory, purchase materials, and track purchases.
  • Teach STEM-based curriculum at various locations across the DFW community.
  • Track and maintain the Outreach vans, including fuel levels and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the Outreach Programs Manager to improve existing program materials and design new curriculum.
  • Assist in staff training related to program delivery and classroom management.
  • Maintain a general understanding of all Learning Department offerings.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Outreach Programs Manager when they are out of the office.
  • Collaborate and support the Camp Manager in all aspects of the seasonal Discovery Camps.
  • Hire and train seasonal Discovery Camp Educators and schedule their assignments.
  • Review Educator lesson plans and prepare classroom camp rosters each week.
  • Care for the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of campers.
  • Ensure camp programs meet state agency standards and requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Education, Theater, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience teaching in a school or informal educational setting.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance that meets state minimum standards.
  • Ability to use a personal vehicle for programs when museum vehicles are unavailable.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills for age-appropriate science content.
  • Ability to train colleagues on educational programs and classroom management techniques.
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with diverse constituencies.
  • Strong organizational skills and dependability.
