About the position

The position supports the community outreach mission of the Office of Human Rights & Equity (OHRE) by developing and implementing plans and programs aimed at addressing and combating discrimination while promoting better human relations. The incumbent will expand the involvement of community groups in OHRE programs, which includes organizing meetings, taking minutes, preparing news releases, flyers, brochures, and other materials that enhance the work of the Office. The role involves outreach to the community, initiating and developing programs related to the mission of OHRE, evaluating community needs, and ensuring innovation in program planning and service delivery. The position also requires the preparation of reports on outreach activities and maintaining community partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Support the community outreach mission of the Office of Human Rights & Equity (OHRE).
  • Expand involvement of community groups in OHRE programs.
  • Organize meetings and take minutes.
  • Prepare news releases, flyers, brochures, and other materials for community groups.
  • Initiate, develop, and implement outreach programs and activities.
  • Evaluate community needs and demographic trends using research methods.
  • Stay current with best practices related to discriminatory practices.
  • Provide reports and data on outreach activities.
  • Initiate and maintain community partnerships.
  • Prepare press releases and media advisories.
  • Design and produce OHRE materials for print and online publication.
  • Monitor the use and care of OHRE materials and equipment.
  • Attend and support activities for assigned commissions and workgroups.
  • Create and provide trainings on civil rights laws and community relations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of cases and investigative matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in community outreach and coordination of events.
  • Experience with advocacy and community organizing.
  • Knowledge of cultural awareness, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice work.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative problem solver and self-starter.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and multimedia software applications.

  • Experience in designing and developing promotional materials.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize multiple projects.
