About the position

The Outreach Coordinator for Project Rebound at San Diego State University is responsible for creating an inclusive and supportive environment for justice-involved students. This role involves collaborating with the Director to develop and implement innovative programs aimed at enhancing academic success and leadership development among students. The coordinator will also serve as a mentor, provide guidance, and address sensitive equity-related issues, contributing to the overall operations of Project Rebound.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Project Rebound to identify, develop, implement, and evaluate innovative programs.
  • Focus on justice-involved student outreach, academic success, leadership development, and overall student enrichment.
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor to students, providing guidance and encouragement.
  • Work closely with interns and student assistants to design and deliver impactful programs.
  • Be a resource for sensitive equity-related issues, crisis situations, and individualized student concerns.
  • Foster an environment of empathy and understanding.
  • Assist in organizing center programs and events.
  • Contribute to the smooth functioning of Project Rebound operations.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field, with evidence of competence and potential for further growth.
  • B.A. in Behavioral and Social Science related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with incarcerated and/or formerly incarcerated people; personal lived experience notably recognized.
  • Ability to understand and navigate a dynamic campus culture.
  • Knowledge and experience working with varied and diverse populations of students.
  • Competency in cross-cultural communication and dialogue practices.
  • Experience in student advising.

Nice-to-haves

  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice.
  • Ability to facilitate difficult dialogues, effectively listen to all points of view and build consensus.
  • Demonstrated success working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives.
