About the position

Central California Legal Services (CCLS) is seeking a dynamic Outreach Coordinator for its newly launched Veterans' Legal Services Project (VLSP). This role is crucial in addressing the unique legal needs of low-income veterans, including whole-person legal services aimed at preventing homelessness and specifically targeting female veterans. The Outreach Coordinator will work under the supervision of the VLSP Manager and collaborate closely with the VLSP Paralegal and other CCLS staff. The primary goal of the VLSP is to provide comprehensive legal services through a combination of VLSP staff, CCLS advocates, skilled volunteer attorneys, and other volunteer legal service providers. The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for developing community partnerships and communication channels to educate veterans about the legal services offered by the VLSP. This includes maximizing outreach efforts to underserved veterans in the community, with a particular focus on female veterans. The role involves coordinating clinics and outreach events at various community partner organizations, such as Veterans' clinics, student veterans' offices at community colleges, and organizations serving veteran populations. The Outreach Coordinator will play a vital role in ensuring that veterans are aware of and can access the legal services they need.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and educate community groups, government agencies, and other organizations that serve the VLSP target populations about VLSP services.
  • Identify communications channels that are significant sources of information for the populations VLSP serves and provide content regularly regarding VLSP services.
  • In collaboration with other CCLS outreach and communications staff, develop and disseminate regularly VLSP 'client-focused' materials, including brochures and clinic flyers in print and electronic formats.
  • Identify community events, school and church activities, employment and service fairs, and similar events where VLSP can participate to conduct presentations or clinics to attendees.
  • Plan and coordinate outreach and clinic events, in collaboration with the VLSP Paralegal, CCLS advocates, and external partners.
  • Perform all duties throughout CCLS service areas.
  • Represent CCLS on relevant committees, task forces, and working groups in the veterans' community.
  • Assist the Manager with data collection, reporting, and compliance measures.
  • Join the CCLS staff in furthering a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Travel to meetings and events in counties served by CCLS as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Public Service experience, non-profit environment or veterans experience is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, self-starter, goal-oriented, and highly organized.
  • Demonstrated success in event planning, outreach, or campaigns.
  • Strong relationship skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to conduct research and identify community groups and opportunities appropriate to the project.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, public speaking, and interpersonal.
  • Experience utilizing a variety of communication channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners at all levels.
  • Able to work with clients who are under multiple stressors, responding with empathy and understanding, and advocating for them.
  • Experience with and enjoyment of working with people from a wide range of economic spheres, cultures, languages, abilities, and geographic areas.
  • Passion for serving veterans.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to be punctual and reliable in keeping work commitments.
  • Deep knowledge of communities within the CCLS service area is a plus.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus (English/Spanish or English/Hmong).
