About the position

The Outreach Worker at Johns Hopkins University will support multiple research studies under the supervision of the ALIVE Study Coordinators and Clinic Director. This role is crucial for locating and retaining study participants, ensuring their engagement throughout the research process. The position is grant-funded and may be time-limited, emphasizing the need for effective outreach and relationship-building within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to service agencies and care facilities to maintain contact with participants.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with local area clinic personnel that interface with study staff and participants.
  • Conduct follow-up activities such as phone calls, mailings, and in-person reminders to ensure participants return for follow-up visits.
  • Perform street outreach to locate participants who have been lost to follow-up, visiting residences, homeless shelters, and other locations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Knowledge of HIV infection & AIDS, Hepatitis C, and related medical terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a research team with a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Reliable transportation and familiarity with the Baltimore transportation system.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some college coursework is a plus.
  • Prior experience with client/participant outreach is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and familiarity with REDCap.
  • Experience in a clinical setting or previous involvement in research is desirable.
  • Comfortable working with a diverse group of people.
  • Familiarity with Baltimore city agencies, homeless shelters, and substance abuse programs.
