About the position

The Outside Account Manager at Ryerson is responsible for maintaining and expanding transactional business with established customers in the Portland/Tacoma marketplace. This role involves building strong relationships, collaborating with internal teams, and driving revenue growth through effective sales strategies and customer engagement.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with contacts at all levels within customer organizations, particularly with purchasing decision makers.
• Collaborate with inside sales, credit center, inventory managers, and other departments to achieve company and customer objectives.
• Monitor the competitive environment and provide market intelligence to sales management.
• Increase revenue from assigned customers by selling value-added services and programs.
• Manage customer accounts, including margin analysis and quality improvement initiatives.
• Develop and implement sales and commercial programs while promoting E-Commerce capabilities.
• Plan and execute daily calls to keep customers informed about industry trends and Ryerson's offerings.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3-5 years previous sales experience in metals service center industry or similar industrial sales background.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in marketing, business, or a related field.
• Proficiency with MS Office is a must; SAP and Salesforce.com experience is highly desired.
• Strong business acumen with excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Highly motivated with the ability to build strong relationships quickly.
• Attention to detail with a strong aptitude for math.
