About The Position
The Outside Auto Appraiser position at The Travelers Companies, Inc. is a full-time role that involves inspecting, estimating, negotiating, and evaluating both first and third-party auto physical damage claims. This includes personal and business insurance claims, covering a range of basic to moderate physical damage scenarios such as collision, comprehensive, property damage, and claims related to fire, theft, flood, and diminished value. The appraiser will serve as a technical resource for auto claim staff, providing guidance on claim damages to ensure optimal outcomes. This position is remote, allowing for a combination of mobile work and work from home, but requires the candidate to reside in or be willing to relocate to the Dallas, TX area. In this role, the appraiser will deliver consistent service quality throughout the claim lifecycle, which includes prompt contact with customers, explaining the claims process, setting expectations, and maintaining effective communication. The appraiser will manage work assignments effectively, travel to locations to inspect vehicles or equipment, and utilize technical expertise to determine the physical claim value accurately. Responsibilities also include preparing detailed damage appraisals, negotiating settlements, and collaborating with claim professionals to ensure appropriate claim resolution. The appraiser will also be involved in damage management and will need to maintain accurate claim and expense reserves. The position requires the acquisition and maintenance of necessary insurance licenses, which must be obtained within three months of starting the job. Participation in the Catastrophe Response Program may also be required, which could involve deployment away from home for a minimum of 16 days. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in auto repair, excellent negotiation skills, and a commitment to continuous education.
