About the position

Fireside Hearth & Home (FHH) is seeking an Outside Builder Sales Representative to join our team in Manassas, VA. As the world's largest and leading fireplace installing distributor and retail dealer in North America, we are committed to providing exceptional service and expertise in the hearth industry. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the vision and goals of FHH by establishing new builder accounts and servicing existing ones in the assigned market. The ideal candidate will maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction through professionalism, integrity, and a focus on being a Hearth Expert who is Easy To Do Business With. In this role, the Outside Builder Sales Representative will be responsible for establishing and prioritizing a lead list through various methods such as permit data, jobsite visits, and referrals. The representative will contact decision-makers on the lead list through cold calling, emails, and direct mail to schedule appointments and discuss revenue-generating opportunities. A strategic marketing plan will be created and maintained for the assigned territory and accounts, ensuring that all leads are effectively managed and converted into customers. The representative will also maintain current builder customer accounts by regularly visiting job sites and offices to build relationships and provide updates on product offerings, pricing, and service enhancements. This includes planning and scheduling sales presentations and product demonstrations for both current and potential builder/homeowner customers. The role requires collaboration with the operations team to ensure all job requirements are met, including materials, selections, and installation needs. The representative will create quotes using the iQuote/Commerce Center and present them to builder/homeowner customers, explaining lead times and installation requirements. Staying up-to-date on product offerings and industry trends is essential, and the representative will be expected to complete online training and attend sales meetings. Additionally, providing sales training to builders' sales staff on product offerings and options will be part of the responsibilities. Regular updates on lead progress, market penetration, and margin improvement will be communicated to the Regional Sales Manager. This position may also involve previewing cash sales to ensure accurate quoting of products and materials. Overall, the Outside Builder Sales Representative will play a vital role in driving sales and enhancing customer relationships within the hearth industry.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and prioritize lead list through permit data, jobsite visits, and referrals.
  • Contact decision-makers of the lead list by cold calling, sending emails, postcards, or letters to schedule appointments.
  • Create and maintain a strategic marketing plan for assigned territory and/or accounts.
  • Create a lead file for current leads including hearth products offered, decision makers, and other relevant information.
  • Maintain current builder customer accounts by visiting job sites and offices regularly.
  • Provide current builder customers with up-to-date information on pricing, service, and product releases.
  • Plan, create, and schedule sales presentations and product demonstrations for customers.
  • Perform initial site requirements from building plans and make product recommendations.
  • Work cross-functionally with the operations team to provide information on materials, selections, and labor requirements.
  • Create quotes in iQuote/Commerce Center and present them to customers, explaining lead times and installation requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date on product offerings and complete online training and attend meetings.
  • Provide sales training to builders' sales staff on product offerings and options.
  • Attend sales meetings and provide updates on leads, market penetration, and sales information to the Regional Sales Manager.
  • Preview cash sales before quoting to ensure accurate product/materials quoting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a sales or marketing field and 3-5 years of successful sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years experience in training others on product features and benefits.
  • Effective territory and account management skills, including cold calling.
  • Ability to think and strategize long-term while meeting short-term goals.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for success and ability to work well under stress.
  • High level of business ethics and personal integrity.
  • Excellent computer skills (Windows, Outlook, Microsoft Office - Word & Excel).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent presentation skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to continuous improvement driven change with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to establish and maintain long-term business relationships.

Nice-to-haves
