About the position

The Outside Plant Technician at AT&T is responsible for the construction and repair of outside plant cable facilities, including conduit and pole lines. This role involves working with heavy-duty power equipment and hand tools, driving company vehicles, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The technician will also engage with customers, perform preventative maintenance, and handle various physical tasks related to the installation and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Work with heavy-duty power equipment and hand tools in the construction and repair of outside plant cable facilities, conduit, and pole lines.
  • Load required tools and materials into assigned company vehicle and drive to work locations.
  • Obtain a Class A Driver's License within the first six months of employment.
  • Receive and follow verbal and/or written work orders and instructions from supervisors.
  • Review and analyze complex schematic drawings to determine work methods and sequence of tasks.
  • Perform various types of construction operations requiring heavy physical labor and lifting.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of assigned company vehicles and work locations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other work groups to perform tests on work-in-progress or completed work.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all assigned company tools, equipment, and motor vehicles.
  • Respond to customer inquiries about products and work operations during field contacts.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with heavy-duty power equipment and hand tools.
  • Valid California Class A Driver's License (to be obtained within six months).
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor and lifting tasks.
  • Experience in reading and analyzing schematic drawings.
  • Strong communication skills for customer interaction and coordination with work groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in telecommunications or related field.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and practices in construction.
