About the position

The Outside Sales Account Manager plays a crucial role in driving sales and developing key customer relationships within the assigned territory. This position requires a proactive approach to identify and capitalize on opportunities with both new and existing customers. The Account Manager will work closely with branch customer sales teams to enhance profitability for key accounts, ensuring that customer needs are met while maximizing the company's gross margins. In this role, the Account Manager will be responsible for calling on all current and potential customers within the designated territory, as well as other areas as needed. This includes maintaining effective relationships with vendors and internal teams to facilitate smooth operations and customer satisfaction. The Account Manager will also be tasked with quoting jobs for customers, which involves determining material costs, preparing submittals, estimating, and providing material specifications and pricing. Additionally, the Account Manager will assist with expense reimbursements and customer management reports, review and edit customer pricing strategies, and develop job tracking and follow-up programs. Close collaboration with the District Sales Manager is essential for effective territory planning and achieving personal sales goals. Utilizing the Impact Sales Process will be a key part of the daily routine, particularly when vetting new accounts. All sales leads and viable quotes must be entered into the CRM system to ensure accurate tracking and follow-up. Effective communication with branch personnel is also critical to streamline the delivery of goods to customers, ensuring a high level of service and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Grow direct customer profitability for assigned key accounts in assigned territory/market.
  • Call on all current and potential customers in the assigned territory and other areas upon request.
  • Assist in improving vendor relationships.
  • Maintain effective work relationships within the company and with key accounts.
  • Quote jobs for customers including determining the cost of material, submittals, estimating, providing material specifications, and pricing to the customer.
  • Assist with expense reimbursements and customer management reports.
  • Review and edit customer pricing with intent to maximize gross margins.
  • Develop and maintain effective work relationships within and external to the company.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of job tracking and follow-up program as required.
  • Work closely with your District Sales Manager on territory planning and personal sales goals.
  • Use the Impact Sales Process in your daily routine especially when vetting new accounts in your territory.
  • Enter all sales leads into the CRM, including all viable quotes that meet a certain monetary threshold.
  • Communicate effectively with branch personnel after securing work to help streamline the delivery of goods to your customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Teamwork, multi-tasking, and leadership skills.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in distribution and/or building and construction industry is preferred.
