About the position

Volt is immediately hiring an Outside Sales Engineer in Chicago, IL. In this role, you will be responsible for the sale of power distribution products, including MV/LV Switchgear, Switchboards, and Panelboards, through direct channels. Your primary focus will be on developing and maintaining relationships with medium and large Electrical Contractor accounts, as well as establishing contacts and sales with key end-user accounts. The ideal candidate will have a strong presence in the Chicago area electrical equipment market and will have built trust with a core group of existing contractors, end users, or electrical distributors. This position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity, and your office base will be remote. As an Outside Sales Engineer, you will be expected to assemble large project package quotations to provide a complete bill of material to the customer. You will work closely with the Sales Director to establish, own, execute, and continuously develop an agreed and sponsored Account plan. Your responsibilities will include identifying and building positive relationships with all account decision-makers and influencers who impact current or future business. You will need to deeply understand and articulate the client buying process, identify and engage in revenue opportunities within defined accounts, and capture the clients' challenges and requirements. Additionally, you will be responsible for using personal and internal resources to develop proposals that meet or exceed client requirements, overseeing the effective handover to the Platform Execution team, and maintaining ongoing oversight of all commercial-related engagements to ensure customer success and satisfaction. You will also need to be highly knowledgeable about the client's business, commercial conditions, structure, strategy, operations, and challenges to articulate opportunities, growth, and risk effectively. Furthermore, you will provide all internal stakeholders and functional departments with account-specific guidance and insights required for them to execute their roles and add value to the client. Lastly, you will manage forecasting and provide information to the Sales Director for capacity planning.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the sale of power distribution products (MV/LV Switchgear, Switchboards, Panelboards) through direct channels.
  • Develop and maintain medium and large Electrical Contractor accounts.
  • Develop contacts and sales with key end user accounts.
  • Assemble large project package quotations to furnish a complete bill of material to the customer.
  • Work with Sales Director to establish, own, execute and continuously develop an agreed & sponsored Account plan.
  • Identify & build positive relations with all account decision & influencers who impact current or future business.
  • Understand and articulate the client buying process.
  • Identify & engage in revenue opportunities within defined accounts.
  • Understand & capture the clients challenges & requirements.
  • Use personal & internal resources to develop proposals that meet/exceed client requirements.
  • Follow the client buying journey/process to commercially respond & offer proposals.
  • Oversee the effective handover to Platform Execution team.
  • Maintain ongoing oversight to all commercial related engagements for customer success/satisfaction and our performance as vendor.
  • Be knowledgeable of the client's business, commercial condition, structure, strategy, operations and challenges.
  • Be knowledgeable on products, services, general business, structure, strategy, operations to articulate value to client's business.
  • Provide internal stakeholders and functional departments with account specific guidance and insights required for them to execute their role and add value to the client.
  • Manage forecasting and provide information to Sales Director for capacity planning.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 - 10 years' experience in the sale of power distribution equipment (MV/LV switchgear/switchboards).
  • Strong track record of negotiating medium and large project orders.
  • Experience generating accurate project proposals utilizing MV/LV switchgear to present a complete bid package.
  • Self-motivated individual with a high level of professionalism.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiating skills.
