About the position

As an Outside Sales Engineer at Watts, you will represent Taft Engineering with integrity, focusing on driving sustainable growth in sales and profit. This role involves expanding the customer base, building lasting relationships, and promoting Taft's technical products and services. You will be responsible for reviewing bid documents, overseeing quotations, purchase orders, and ensuring compliance with Taft's procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with customers to assess needs and sell Taft's technical products and services.
  • Manage and grow client accounts, developing long-term relationships with existing clients and acquiring new accounts.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities within existing and new accounts.
  • Maintain product knowledge and stay updated on all Taft products to support customer decision-making.
  • Deliver professional-level product and educational presentations tailored to customer needs.
  • Develop and maintain marketing materials and resources to support the sales process.
  • Provide engineering support to Taft employees and clients, ensuring customer satisfaction and technical accuracy.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, acting as a liaison between vendors, manufacturers, contractors, and engineers.
  • Follow sales processes to achieve sales targets as per Taft's sales plans and policies.
  • Create quotations using quotation software for all Taft products.
  • Qualify bid opportunities using online construction bidding software.
  • Analyze commercial construction drawings and specifications to incorporate Taft products into project designs.
  • Review purchase orders to ensure alignment with corporate policies and resolve conflicts with customers.
  • Maintain profit margins and address any variances with management before presenting to clients.
  • Organize and maintain essential documents related to product files, marketing materials, and sales strategies.
  • Participate in sales and service training events, either in-office or off-site.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree and/or 4+ years of experience in Engineering, Engineering Sales, or Technical HVAC Sales.
  • Professional level of mathematical, verbal, and written skills.
  • Ability to present to both small and large groups.
  • Strong technical understanding of products and applications, with the capacity to explain complex concepts to clients.
  • Proficiency in basic Internet software, CRM software, and order processing systems.
  • Willingness to spend 75% of time on sales calls, including driving and occasional air travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the plumbing or HVAC industry.
  • Familiarity with construction bidding software.
  • Previous experience in a sales engineering role.
