About the position

The Outside Sales Representative for Building Materials is responsible for driving sales and business development in the Gulf South region. This role involves managing a designated territory, building strong client relationships, providing product knowledge, and ensuring excellent customer service. The representative will also prepare sales reports and negotiate contracts, all while staying informed about industry trends and competitor activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to achieve revenue targets.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the Gulf South region.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients and potential customers.
  • Provide product knowledge and information to customers, addressing their needs and requirements.
  • Manage and grow a designated territory within the Gulf South region.
  • Conduct regular market research to stay informed about industry trends, customer needs, and competitor activities.
  • Travel within the territory to meet clients, attend trade shows, and explore new opportunities.
  • Ensure excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of products and services.
  • Prepare and submit regular sales reports, including sales forecasts, market analysis, and activity reports.
  • Utilize CRM tools to track customer interactions, sales leads, and account information.
  • Stay informed about the company's lumber and supply products, features, and benefits.
  • Provide training and product demonstrations to clients as needed.
  • Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to expand contacts and promote the company's products.
  • Negotiate and finalize contracts with clients, ensuring mutually beneficial terms.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Sales Representative in the lumber and supply industry.
  • Established contacts and experience in the Gulf South region.
  • In-depth understanding of lumber and building supply products.
  • Excellent sales, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with clients and industry partners.
  • Track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.
  • Willingness to travel within the designated territory.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.

  • Capability to perform take-offs is preferred but not required.
