About the position

The Outside Sales Representative for the South Territory at Garlock Equipment is a pivotal role that involves direct engagement with potential and existing customers through face-to-face interactions. The representative will be the face of Garlock Chicago, ensuring that every customer interaction is positive and productive. The role requires a proactive approach to sales, necessitating travel within the assigned territory to meet prospects and customers, conduct calls, and hold meetings. The representative will also be responsible for providing hands-on demonstrations of products, showcasing their features and benefits to customers. In addition to sales activities, the representative will maintain detailed records of all sales leads and customer accounts, ensuring that all interactions are documented and followed up appropriately. Educating customers on how Garlock's products and services can enhance their operations both financially and professionally is a key component of this role. The representative will also need to stay informed about industry competitors, new products, and market conditions to effectively address customer needs. The role may also involve attending tradeshows and industry events, which are essential for networking and showcasing Garlock's offerings. Communication with customers will occur through various channels, including phone and email, and the representative will be responsible for entering orders into the ERP system. Overall, this position requires a blend of sales acumen, technical knowledge, and excellent interpersonal skills to succeed in a competitive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct sales calls in the field via face-to-face interactions with potential and existing customers within an assigned territory.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations of products when necessary.
  • Build and maintain relationships with new and repeat customers.
  • Maintain records of all sales leads and/or customer accounts.
  • Educate customers on how products or services can benefit them financially and professionally.
  • Sell and deliver the company's products or services to customers within your given territory.
  • Monitor the company's industry competitors, new products, and market conditions to understand a customer's specific needs.
  • Maintain truck and other equipment in clean functional condition.
  • Attend tradeshows and industry events as needed.
  • Communicate with customers via phone and email.
  • Enter orders in ERP system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and CRM systems.
  • Must be able to obtain or possess a valid DOT medical card.
