About the position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Builders FirstSource, you will play a crucial role in representing the company to our largest and most complex customers. Your primary responsibility will be to understand customer needs and identify the appropriate products and services to meet those requirements. This position requires a deep knowledge of our offerings and the ability to effectively communicate and demonstrate how our solutions can fulfill customer expectations. You will be involved in developing sales contracts for a variety of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial, by collaborating closely with engineers and architects to gather necessary specifications and relay any changes to our technical staff and management. In addition to your sales responsibilities, you will also participate in a leadership capacity, helping to train and develop less experienced members of the sales team. This may include acting as a Sales Manager in their absence and providing guidance and support to new Outside Sales Representatives. You will be expected to conduct effective sales presentations, troubleshoot complex field issues, and continuously update customers on our products and services, ensuring they are informed about how we can meet their current and future needs. Your role will also involve researching and identifying new customer opportunities, generating leads through effective demonstrations of our products, and maintaining a high level of professionalism and diplomacy in all interactions. You will be responsible for preparing reports and documentation for management, enhancing your sales techniques through ongoing training, and adhering to all safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment. This position is ideal for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing their own work efficiency to meet productivity goals.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the company during the sales process by collecting data on customer needs and design specifications.
  • Act as a liaison between inside technical/design staff and customers in developing sales proposals.
  • Develop sales contracts for a wide range of projects by collecting specification information from clients.
  • Troubleshoot field issues that may be complex in nature.
  • Plan and conduct sales presentations for current and prospective customers.
  • Design professional demonstrations or presentations of company products and services.
  • Research, identify, and solicit new customers to generate sales opportunities.
  • Continuously update customers on products and services and how they meet their needs.
  • Participate in a leadership role, such as chairing meetings and training less experienced sales staff.
  • Prepare recurring and special reports for management as required.
  • Enhance knowledge of sales techniques and expand product knowledge through training programs.
  • Plan and pace work efficiency to meet productivity goals.
  • Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing or related field plus two (2) years prior sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of company products, services, production processes and product standards.
  • In-depth understanding of policies and procedures relating to sales and customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy and tact.
  • Highly effective selling skills and ability to achieve aggressive sales goals.
  • Effective presentation skills, including the ability to present complex subject matter.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively and work unsupervised.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to provide training and development to less experienced Outside Sales Reps.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license.
