About the position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Sysco, you will be an integral part of our World Class Sales Team, focusing on promoting our products and services while building strong relationships with both new and existing accounts. This role is designed for experienced sales professionals, restaurant managers, culinary managers, or chefs who are looking for career development opportunities. You will have the chance to participate in specialized sales training and engage in both individual and team-based selling, allowing you to learn about different ethnic segments and enhance your sales skills. The selected candidate will begin in our upcoming sales class on August 19, 2024, and will be responsible for a sales territory that includes Richmond, MI, Port Huron, MI, and Lexington, MI. It is essential that candidates reside within this territory. The position requires a commitment to helping Sysco customers succeed while achieving the sales and profit goals established by the company. You will need to be flexible with your schedule, as this role may require working non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet customer needs effectively. In this role, you will develop new business, penetrate existing accounts, and minimize lost business to achieve profitable sales growth. You will research customer business needs, evaluate market trends, and recommend products based on those needs. Additionally, you will be responsible for providing product information and training to customer personnel, managing deliveries, and participating in company functions and promotions. Your ability to communicate effectively and build trust with customers will be crucial to your success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new business, penetrate existing accounts, and minimize lost business to achieve profitable sales growth and special objectives within assigned territory.
  • Seek and qualify prospects following company account stratification goals.
  • Research customer business needs and develop a mix of products and services to meet those needs.
  • Evaluate market trends and recommend products to customers based on their business needs and goals.
  • Stay informed of market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services provided.
  • Answer customers' questions about products, prices, availability, and product use.
  • Provide product information and practical training to customer personnel.
  • Drive personal vehicle to customer accounts, conventions, company meetings, etc.
  • Communicate and collect accounts receivable as necessary, working with the credit department and clients; collect all balances due based on approved credit terms.
  • Manage deliveries to the routing schedule published by the transportation department; troubleshoot any problems that occur during the order process.
  • Participate in company functions, promotions, customer visits, and customer events.
  • Attend and participate in general sales and district meetings.
  • Engage in ongoing training sessions.
  • Assist with the training of new employees as requested.
  • Review and analyze daily and weekly reports such as special-order requests, customer bid files, and sales/gross profit margin data.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales budgets and reports, maintaining sales records, processing credits, and pick-up requests, preparing sales quotes and menu suggestions, and filing reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, Hospitality, Culinary Arts or related discipline OR High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of Restaurant Management, B2B or outside sales experience, or equivalent relatable experience including completion of the Sysco Sales Internship.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (including no multiple DUIs within the last 2 years).
  • Current automobile insurance with specified limits of liability.
