About the position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Graybar, you will play a crucial role in developing new prospects and maintaining relationships with established customers to sell the company's products. This position requires you to interact regularly and in person with prospects and customers at their business sites or other off-site locations. Your primary responsibility will be to meet or exceed the assigned annual gross margin budget by promoting and selling products within your designated territory, all while adhering to the company's pricing policies. You will also be responsible for handling customer complaints promptly and effectively, ensuring that potential claims are reported in a timely manner. In addition to sales, you will keep management informed about local competition and market conditions, carry out sales and merchandise programs as directed, and recommend new items for stock. Maintaining accurate customer records, files, and reports of business transactions is essential, as is assisting in the collection of past due accounts. Participation in training sessions, trade shows, and sales meetings will also be part of your role, along with demonstrating products after the sale when necessary. This position is full-time, salaried, and exempt, with a predictable work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing you to plan your life around your work commitments without the need for weekend or night shifts.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience required; 6+ years preferred.
  • 4 year degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of business administration, sales, and marketing.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Ability to learn our business and to work independently to achieve goals.
  • Ability to sell and be persuasive.
  • Extensive travel required, including some overnight travel.
