About the position

As an Outside Sales Representative I at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, you will play a crucial role in the marketing and sales of group and individual accounts for various insurance products. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about sales and customer service, and who thrive in a dynamic and competitive environment. You will be responsible for achieving production quotas within your assigned territory, which involves not only selling but also renewing and servicing accounts. Your work will primarily take place outside the office, engaging directly with clients and potential customers to build relationships and drive sales.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute marketing plans for new sales and retention of existing accounts within assigned territory.
  • Prepare and present proposals and communications to groups, agents, and/or individuals.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with groups, agents, and/or individuals.
  • Assess agency, agent, group, and/or individual sales opportunities and work with them to resolve issues.
  • Conduct ongoing market research and provide key information that may lead to sales.
  • Prepare and submit required marketing reports to management detailing how to best position company products.
  • Maintain product and industry knowledge by attending seminars, continuing education classes, and conferences.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education required.
  • 1 year of sales and marketing experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Department of Insurance Licensure must be obtained within 60 days of hire in the state employed.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with groups, agents, and potential customers.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles, techniques, and the marketplace.
  • Effective presentation and customer service skills.
  • Analytical or critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to persuade, negotiate, or influence others.
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of customer service experience, particularly in provider networks.
  • Knowledge of mathematical or statistical concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, or other spreadsheet/database software.
