About the position

84 Lumber is seeking an Outside Sales Representative (OSR) who will be responsible for selling products and services to both current and prospective clients outside of the company's physical locations. This role is crucial in maintaining positive customer relationships and identifying new sales opportunities. The OSR will be expected to achieve predetermined sales goals while ensuring that sales are made at an acceptable profit margin. The position offers a competitive salary range of $50,000 to $80,000, with the potential for commission based on experience. As a part of the 84 Lumber team, the OSR will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where they can control their own success. The OSR will be expected to build and maintain a network of sources to identify new sales leads, communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs, and demonstrate the utility of products and services. The OSR will be responsible for keeping detailed reports of sales activities, including calls, orders, and any relationship problems with customers or vendors. This position is based in Kansas City, MO, and operates on a Monday to Friday schedule from 7 AM to 5 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains a network of sources from which to identify new sales leads.
  • Communicates with customers and leads to identify and understand their product or service needs; identifies and suggests products and services to meet those needs.
  • Demonstrates the functions and utility of products or services to customers based on their needs.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction through ongoing communication and relationship management; resolves any issues that may arise post-sale.
  • Maintains communication with existing and previous customers, alerting them of new products, services, and enhancements that may be of interest.
  • Maintains detailed reports of sales activities including calls, orders, sales, lost business, and any customer or vendor relationship problems.
  • Provides periodic territory sales forecasts.

Requirements

  • Industry knowledge in building materials and sales experience.
  • Ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Strong communication skills to understand customer needs and suggest appropriate products.
  • Proficient in maintaining detailed sales reports and forecasts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in outside sales or a similar role.
  • Familiarity with construction or building materials industry.
