About the position

The Outside Sales Representative - Meter at Fortiline Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for selling meters and metering systems while supporting the existing salesforce. This position is crucial for identifying, pursuing, and closing potential metering opportunities across Maryland. The representative will report directly to the General Manager of the Municipal Group and will maintain constant interaction with meter manufacturers. The role requires a proactive approach to building relationships with municipal utilities and engineering firms, ensuring that the company’s offerings are well understood and competitively positioned in the market. In this role, the Outside Sales Representative will work closely with various internal teams, including the GM, Regional Sales Manager, Estimators, Branch Manager, and both Outside and Inside Sales teams, to facilitate a smooth bid delivery process. The representative must stay informed about upcoming bids and maintain close communication with customers, engineers, and owners, utilizing various Construction Data Services to track opportunities. Frequent visits to municipal utilities and engineering firms are essential to develop strong personal relationships with accounts and to understand municipal and project specifications thoroughly. The representative will also need to have a strong understanding of metering technologies, including AMR and AMI systems, and be familiar with both exclusive manufacturers and competitive products. This role involves partnering with vendors to educate engineers and municipalities about the benefits of the products offered by Fortiline. Additionally, the representative will manage bids to ensure that quotations are organized, thorough, and competitively priced, while also maintaining continuing education to stay updated on metering technology advancements. The position requires effective communication skills to manage customer interactions, respond to inquiries, and ensure timely project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Sell meters and metering systems while supporting the existing salesforce.
  • Identify, pursue, and close potential metering opportunities across Maryland.
  • Work closely with GM, Regional Sales Manager, Estimators, Branch Manager, Outside Sales, and Inside Sales to ensure a smooth Bid Delivery process.
  • Maintain close communication on pending bids with customers, engineers, and owners.
  • Develop personal relationships with accounts through frequent municipal utility and engineering visits.
  • Understand municipal and project specifications thoroughly.
  • Have a strong understanding of metering, AMR, AMI for exclusive manufacturers and competitive products.
  • Partner with vendors to educate engineers and municipalities about product benefits.
  • Manage all bids to ensure Fortiline quotations are organized, thorough, and price competitive.
  • Maintain continuing education to stay updated on metering technology.
  • Work with meter manufacturers to secure exclusivity in any given territory.
  • Coordinate regular travel with existing sales force to train, pursue, and close projects.
  • Ensure effective verbal and phone communication with customers.
  • Respond quickly to Branch Manager on edit list issues for pricing and cost.
  • Keep order backlog and quote front log updated and accurate in Mincron.
  • Play an active role in securing quick payment on all invoices.
  • Coordinate and respond to the Credit department on all payment issues.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Willingness to travel up to 90% of the time.
  • Minimum 2 - 7 years of sales experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills with strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • A working knowledge of Mincron - Bid entry, pricing, and order management.
