As an Outside Sales Representative, you will demonstrate in-depth knowledge, experience, and skills to effectively represent the company with the largest or most complex customers. You will understand customer needs and identify products and services to meet these requirements. In this role, you will participate in a leadership capacity, helping to train and develop less experienced members of the sales staff. You may also act as Sales Manager during their absence. Your responsibilities will include representing the company during the sales process by collecting data on customer needs and design specifications, acting as a liaison between inside technical/design staff and customers in developing sales proposals. You will possess the experience and knowledge to effectively handle complex or highly specialized customer requirements, develop sales contracts for a wide range of projects, and troubleshoot field issues that may be difficult to resolve. You will effectively plan and conduct sales presentations for current and prospective customers, design professional demonstrations of company products and services, and continuously update customers on products and services to meet their current or future requirements. Additionally, you will prepare recurring and special reports for management as required, enhance your knowledge of sales techniques, and expand product and industry knowledge by attending company-sponsored training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the company during the sales process by collecting data on customer needs and design specifications.
  • Acts as a liaison between inside technical/design staff and customers in developing sales proposals.
  • Develops sales contracts for a wide range of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial.
  • Troubleshoots field issues which may be difficult to resolve or are complex in nature.
  • Plans and conducts sales presentations for current and prospective customers.
  • Designs professional demonstrations or presentations of company products and services.
  • Researches, identifies, and solicits new customers.
  • Generates sales opportunities through research on client needs and effective demonstration of the company's products and services.
  • Continuously updates customers on products and services and provides explanations on how these meet customer requirements.
  • Participates in a leadership role, such as chairing meetings and helping train less experienced sales staff.
  • Prepares recurring and special reports for management as required.
  • Enhances knowledge of sales techniques and expands product and industry knowledge by attending training programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, or related field plus two (2) years prior sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of company products, services, production processes, and product standards.
  • In-depth understanding of policies and procedures relating to sales and customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, and tact to portray the company positively.
  • Highly effective selling skills and ability to achieve aggressive sales goals.
  • Effective presentation skills, including the ability to present complex subject matter to a non-expert audience.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively, and work unsupervised.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and influencing skills.
