About the position

We are Builders FirstSource, America's largest supplier of building materials, value-added components, and building services to the professional market. As an Outside Sales Representative, you will play a crucial role in transforming the future of home building and helping make the dream of home ownership more achievable. This position requires a deep understanding of customer needs and the ability to identify products and services that meet those requirements. You will represent the company during the sales process, acting as a liaison between customers and our technical/design staff to develop tailored sales proposals. In this role, you will be responsible for developing sales contracts for a variety of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial. This involves collecting specification information from clients' engineers or architects and effectively communicating their needs to our technical staff. You will also troubleshoot complex field issues and conduct sales presentations for both current and prospective customers. Your ability to design professional demonstrations of our products and services will be key in showcasing how we can meet specific customer needs. Additionally, you will be expected to research and solicit new customers, generating sales opportunities through a thorough understanding of client needs and industry competition. Continuous communication with customers about our products and services is essential, as is participating in leadership roles, such as chairing meetings and training less experienced sales staff. You will also prepare reports and documentation for management and enhance your knowledge of sales techniques through company-sponsored training programs. Safety is a priority, and you will be expected to understand and observe all safety procedures to prevent injury to yourself and others.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the company during the sales process by collecting data on customer needs and design specifications.
  • Act as a liaison between inside technical/design staff and customers in developing sales proposals.
  • Develop sales contracts for a wide range of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial.
  • Troubleshoot field issues that may be complex in nature.
  • Plan and conduct sales presentations for current and prospective customers.
  • Design professional demonstrations or presentations of company products and services.
  • Research, identify, and solicit new customers.
  • Generate sales opportunities through research on client needs and effective demonstration of products and services.
  • Continuously update customers on products and services and how they meet current or future requirements.
  • Participate in leadership roles, such as chairing meetings and training less experienced sales staff.
  • Prepare recurring and special reports for management as required.
  • Enhance knowledge of sales techniques and expand product and industry knowledge by attending training programs.
  • Plan and pace work efficiency to meet productivity goals.
  • Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, or related field plus two (2) years prior sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of company products, services, production processes, and product standards.
  • In-depth understanding of policies and procedures relating to sales and customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Highly effective selling skills and ability to achieve aggressive sales goals.
  • Effective presentation skills, including the ability to present complex subject matter to a non-expert audience.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively, and work unsupervised.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to provide training and development to less experienced Outside Sales Reps.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in Office Suite.
