About the position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Graybar Electric Company, you will play a crucial role in developing new prospects and maintaining relationships with established customers to sell the company's products. This position requires you to interact regularly and in person with prospects and customers at their business locations or other off-site venues. Your primary responsibility will be to meet or exceed the assigned annual gross margin budget by promoting and selling products within your designated territory, adhering to the company's pricing policies. You will also be responsible for handling customer complaints promptly and effectively, ensuring that potential claims are reported to management. In addition to sales, you will keep management informed about local competition and market conditions, carry out sales and merchandise programs as directed, and recommend new items for stock. Maintaining accurate customer records, files, and reports of business transactions is essential, as is assisting in the collection of past due accounts. Participation in training sessions, trade shows, and sales meetings will be expected, and you may need to demonstrate products after the sale when necessary. This role demands a proactive approach to sales, requiring you to be persuasive and capable of working independently to achieve your goals. Extensive travel is required, including some overnight trips, as you will be engaging with customers across your territory.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience required; 6+ years preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration preferred.
  • Knowledge of business administration, sales, and marketing.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to learn the business and work independently to achieve goals.
  • Ability to sell and be persuasive.
  • Extensive travel required, including some overnight travel.
