About the position

As an Outside Sales Representative for State & Local Government and Education at Staples, you will play a crucial role in driving sales within a defined territory. This position focuses on two primary responsibilities: penetrating existing accounts by winning new sites and ramping up and onboarding accounts to expand our customer base. It is a high-velocity sales role that requires a proactive approach, leveraging a prioritized action list to engage with potential clients and manage opportunities through the sales funnel. You will collaborate closely with Account Management to develop strategies for site acquisition, with new site targets provided by Sales Operations and occasionally selected in partnership with Account Management. The role necessitates travel to meet clients face-to-face, as well as utilizing remote methods such as phone and internet to maintain and grow sales relationships within your designated geographies. In this position, you will consistently meet activity goals and daily metrics, embodying a hunter mindset that drives outbound dials, sell time, live contacts, and created opportunities. You will partner effectively with Account Management to determine site hunting strategies within existing accounts and work with GPO FSDs to navigate contractual complexities and refine strategies for acquiring new logos within the Complex segment. Your expertise will be essential in influencing pricing decisions to ensure a seamless customer experience, managing the sales funnel to close opportunities, and utilizing professional selling skills to communicate Staples' value propositions and capabilities effectively. You will also be responsible for creating 'sticky' accounts that continue to purchase from Staples, executing strategies defined by the Senior Leadership Team, and integrating feedback from prospects into your sales approach. Daily communication with prospects in a professional manner is a key aspect of this role, as is the ability to work closely with internal teams, including customer support and category specialists, to progress deals forward to closure. Your success in this role will be measured by your ability to bring in over $750K in revenue annually and your capacity to develop and deliver presentations both virtually and in person.
