About the position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Builders FirstSource, you will play a crucial role in representing the company to our largest and most complex customers. Your in-depth knowledge and experience will enable you to understand customer needs and identify the right products and services to meet those requirements. You will be actively involved in the sales process, collecting data on customer needs and design specifications, and acting as a liaison between the inside technical/design staff and the customer to develop tailored sales proposals. This position also involves troubleshooting field issues that may be complex in nature, ensuring that customer satisfaction is maintained throughout the sales process. In addition to your sales responsibilities, you will be expected to conduct effective sales presentations for both current and prospective customers. This includes designing professional demonstrations of our products and services, clarifying how they can meet specific customer needs. You will also be responsible for researching, identifying, and soliciting new customers, generating sales opportunities through a thorough understanding of client needs and industry competition. Continuous communication with customers regarding product updates and how these products can meet their current or future requirements is essential. As a leader within the sales team, you may chair meetings, act in the Sales Manager's capacity during their absence, and help train and develop less experienced sales staff. You will prepare various reports and documentation for management and enhance your own knowledge of sales techniques and product offerings by attending company-sponsored training programs. Safety is a priority, and you will be expected to understand and observe all safety procedures to prevent injury to yourself and others. This role is dynamic and requires a proactive approach to meet daily, weekly, and project-related productivity goals.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the company during the sales process by collecting data on customer needs and design specifications.
  • Acts as a liaison between inside technical/design staff and customers in developing sales proposals.
  • Develops sales contracts for a wide range of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial.
  • Troubleshoots field issues which may be difficult to resolve or are complex in nature.
  • Plans and conducts sales presentations for current and prospective customers.
  • Designs professional demonstrations or presentations of company products and services.
  • Researches, identifies, and solicits new customers.
  • Generates sales opportunities through research on client needs and industry competition.
  • Continuously updates customers on products and services and explains how they meet customer requirements.
  • Participates in a leadership role, such as chairing meetings and helping train less experienced sales staff.
  • Prepares recurring and special reports for management as required.
  • Enhances knowledge of sales techniques and expands product knowledge by attending training programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, or related field plus two (2) years prior sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of company products, services, production processes, and product standards.
  • In-depth understanding of policies and procedures relating to sales and customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Highly effective selling skills and ability to achieve aggressive sales goals.
  • Highly effective presentation skills, including the ability to present complex subject matter to a non-expert audience.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively, and work unsupervised.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to provide training and development to less experienced Outside Sales Reps.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license.
