About the position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Waste Connections, Inc., you will play a crucial role in selling commercial waste removal and disposal services. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing proposals, reaching out to both new and existing customers, and effectively utilizing our Salesforce-driven CRM tool, ARES. You will spend approximately 60-70% of your time in your designated territory, actively prospecting and exploring market opportunities. The remaining time will be dedicated to team building, strategic planning, and account management with internal teams. In this position, you will serve as the main point of contact for a current book of business, which includes both commercial and industrial accounts. You will be responsible for gathering contract expiration dates, documenting existing customer concerns, and collaborating with other departments to address customer requests for service. Proactive communication with customers is essential, particularly in support of the company's pricing initiatives. You will also perform contractual re-signs, focusing on building long-term customer relationships and increasing customer profitability where appropriate. To succeed in this role, you will need to develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the company's available services, lines of business, and pricing structures. You will also be expected to conduct waste stream analyses, estimating volumes and recognizing waste streams that require special handling or can be recycled or diverted. Building relationships and increasing company visibility through participation in company-sponsored activities, trade shows, chamber of commerce events, and similar activities will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Selling commercial waste removal and disposal services.
  • Preparing proposals and calling on new and existing customers.
  • Utilizing and owning the Salesforce-driven CRM tool, ARES.
  • Planning and executing cold calls to influence potential commercial customers into setting appointments.
  • Spending 60-70% of time in designated territory for prospecting and exploring market opportunities.
  • Engaging in team building, strategic planning, and account management with internal teams.
  • Being the main point of contact for a current book of business for commercial and industrial accounts.
  • Gathering contract expiration dates and documenting existing customer concerns.
  • Working with other departments to satisfy customer requests for service.
  • Proactively communicating with customers in support of company pricing initiatives.
  • Performing contractual re-signs and building long-term customer relationships.
  • Increasing customer profitability where appropriate.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of the company's services, pricing structures, and additional offerings.

Requirements

  • 2 years of outside sales/B2B experience preferred.
  • Solid waste industry experience is a plus.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
