About the position

The Outside Sales Representative at GR Morris & Associates is responsible for generating new business and maintaining relationships with contractors, builders, architects, and other key decision-makers in the construction industry. This role focuses on promoting and selling a full range of exterior building materials, ensuring that clients receive the best products and customer service to support their projects.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and prospect new contractor accounts and business opportunities in the assigned territory.
  • Develop and implement effective sales strategies to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Conduct cold calls, site visits, and networking to build a robust pipeline of potential clients.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, long-term relationships with contractors and other key industry partners.
  • Provide excellent customer service by understanding client needs, providing technical product knowledge, and ensuring timely deliveries and follow-ups.
  • Work closely with existing clients to upsell and cross-sell additional products and services.
  • Educate clients about the full range of exterior building materials, offering tailored solutions to meet specific project needs.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new products, and construction methods to position yourself as a knowledgeable resource for clients.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (logistics, customer service, warehouse) to ensure accurate order processing and on-time delivery.
  • Assist clients with product selections, quotations, and project specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, client interactions, and opportunities in CRM software.
  • Prepare and present regular sales reports, forecasts, and performance metrics to management.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an outside sales representative, ideally within the construction, building materials, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of exterior building materials (roofing, siding, windows, decking, etc.) is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with contractors, project managers, and other decision-makers.
  • Self-motivated with a strong drive to meet and exceed sales goals.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a territory effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel within the designated region.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience selling to contractors or in the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with CRM software and sales reporting tools.
  • Technical knowledge of construction and building materials specifications.
