About the position

In our Park City-Heber location, Builders FirstSource (BFS) is seeking an experienced outside Salesman to join our team. The primary purpose of this role is to demonstrate in-depth knowledge, experience, and skills to effectively represent the company with our largest or most complex customers. You will be responsible for understanding customer needs and identifying the products and services that meet these requirements. Additionally, you will participate in a leadership role by helping to train and develop less experienced members of the sales staff. In the absence of the Sales Manager, you may also act in that capacity. As an outside Salesman, you will represent the company during the sales process by collecting data on customer needs and design specifications. You will act as a liaison between the inside technical/design staff and the customer in developing sales proposals. Your experience and knowledge will be crucial in handling complex or highly specialized customer requirements. You will also be tasked with developing sales contracts for a wide range of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial, by collecting specification information from the client's engineer or architect of record and conveying needs and changes to technical staff and management. Troubleshooting field issues that may be difficult to resolve or complex in nature will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the company during the sales process by collecting data on customer needs and design specifications, acting as a liaison between inside technical/design staff and customer in developing sales proposals.
  • Develops sales contracts for a wide range of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial, by collecting specification information from the client's engineer or architect of record and conveying needs and changes to technical staff and management.
  • Troubleshoots field issues which may be difficult to resolve or are complex in nature.
  • Effectively plans and conducts sales presentations for current and prospective customers, designing professional demonstrations or presentations of company products and services and providing clarification on how we can meet their specific needs.
  • Researches, identifies, and solicits new customers, generating sales opportunities through research on client needs, industry competition, and effective demonstration of the features and benefits of the company's products and services.
  • Continuously updates customers on products and services and provides explanations on how these products and services meet current or future customer requirements.
  • Participates in a leadership role, such as chairing meetings, acting in the Sales Manager's capacity during his/her absence, and helping train and develop less experienced members of the sales staff.
  • May provide training to less experienced Outside Sales Reps.
  • Prepares recurring and special reports, forms, or other documentation for management, as required.
  • Enhances knowledge of sales techniques and expands product and industry knowledge by attending company-sponsored training programs, and may serve as presenter at training programs to assist in the development of less experienced Outside Sales Reps.
  • Plans and paces own work efficiency in order to meet daily, weekly, project, or team-related productivity goals.
  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or coworkers, attending periodic safety meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in outside sales, preferably in a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of customer needs and the ability to identify appropriate products and services to meet those needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
  • Ability to develop and manage sales contracts for various projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial.
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex field issues and providing effective solutions.
  • Strong presentation skills to conduct effective sales presentations and product demonstrations.
  • Ability to research and identify new customer opportunities and generate sales leads.
  • Leadership skills to train and develop less experienced sales staff.

Nice-to-haves
