About the position

A stable, well-established manufacturing and distribution company is seeking an Outside Sales Representative for their Southern California territory. This position is crucial for promoting, specifying, and selling products to business and industrial establishments or individuals, either at the sales office or the customer's place of business. The role requires adherence to the company's culture, mission, vision, and core values, including safety beliefs and employee engagement. The representative will be responsible for creating and updating lists of prospective customers based on various sources, strategically traveling throughout the assigned territory to solicit specifications and orders, and demonstrating products using samples or catalogs. The Outside Sales Representative will also be tasked with quoting prices and credit terms, preparing sales contracts, and estimating delivery dates based on production schedules. They will need to maintain effective communication with engineering firms and municipalities to assist in specifications and track projects through job lead publications. The role involves handling incoming calls from customers and suppliers, making service calls for minor repairs, and continually educating themselves on new and existing products. Additionally, the representative will attend trade shows and conventions to make customer contacts that result in product sales, while also monitoring competitor positions in the market. This position requires a Bachelor's degree and at least two years of related experience, with a preference for candidates who have knowledge of Water Products. The physical demands include regular sitting, using hands, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds. The work environment is primarily remote, with a Monday to Friday schedule, and includes a generous benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes the culture, mission, and vision of the company.
  • Creates and updates lists of prospective customers for sales leads.
  • Strategically travels overnight approximately five to ten times per month to call on current and prospective customers.
  • Displays or demonstrates products using samples or catalogs, emphasizing salable features.
  • Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Estimates delivery dates to customers based on production and delivery schedules.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions and sales progress, submitting expense accounts as required.
  • Follows up on engineering firms and municipalities to assist in specifications.
  • Tracks projects through job lead publications and communicates this information to the branch.
  • Handles incoming phone calls from customers and suppliers.
  • Drives fork-lift in sales yards, loads and unloads trucks, and handles products as needed.
  • Makes service calls to accomplish minor repairs to company products upon customer request.
  • Continually educates themselves on new and existing products to maintain effective knowledge.
  • Provides direct customer communication regarding product use and application.
  • Reviews existing products and customer specifications for cost-effective casting design.
  • Works with Engineering personnel on proposed design modifications and submits revised designs for customer approval.
  • Attends trade shows, meetings, expositions, and conventions to make customer contacts that result in product sales.
  • Maintains complete knowledge of company products and monitors competitor positions in the market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Water Products and the technical ability to understand features, benefits, and concepts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in outside sales for at least 3 years.
  • Knowledge of Water Products for at least 1 year.
